1. What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process where individuals work with a trained psychologist to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal is to help manage emotional distress, improve relationships, and support personal growth.
At Flourish Therapy, we use approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, and Mindfulness, tailoring our methods to your unique needs. We’re here to walk this path alongside you and ensure the process fits who you are.

2. How do I know if I need therapy?
If you're feeling persistently sad, anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck, therapy can help. It’s also a valuable space if you’re seeking personal growth or need a neutral place to process life changes.
Reaching out for support is a strength—not a weakness. At Flourish Therapy, we’re here to help you navigate life’s challenges and move toward the life you want.

3. What types of issues can Flourish Therapy help with?
We can support you with a range of emotional and psychological challenges, including:
-
Relationship difficulties
-
Grief and loss
-
Life transitions
-
Work or school-related stress
-
Low self-esteem
-
Burnout
-
Anxiety (including social anxiety)
-
Depression and mood swings
-
Loneliness
Whatever you're going through, you're not alone—we're here to help you find clarity and balance.

4. What should I expect in the first session?
In your first session, we’ll take time to get to know you—your personal history, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This is also your opportunity to ask questions about the therapy process. The first session is about building trust and creating a shared understanding of your goals.

5. What happens during a therapy session?
A typical session lasts between 50 to 90 minutes. In a safe, confidential space, we’ll talk about whatever is on your mind. We’ll listen attentively, ask meaningful questions, and offer guidance or techniques to help you work through your challenges. It’s a space where you can express yourself freely, without judgment.

6. How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Some people feel better after just a few sessions, while others may benefit from deeper, longer-term work.
In the first few sessions, we’ll discuss your goals and get a sense of what timeline feels right for you.

7. Do you offer online or virtual therapy?
Yes, we offer online therapy via Zoom for your convenience. Virtual sessions are ideal if you have a busy schedule, prefer the comfort of home, or live outside of Leiden.
You’ll receive a secure link a few hours before your session. Online sessions are just as effective and confidential as in-person therapy.

8. How much does therapy cost?
To make therapy more accessible, Flourish Therapy offers a sliding fee scale based on your financial situation:
-
Student / Unemployed rate: €80
-
Standard rate: €90
-
International insurance rate: €130
These rates apply to standard 50-minute individual sessions.
If you are using Dutch health insurance, fees are determined by the NZa (Dutch Healthcare Authority). Please reach out for more information or guidance on reimbursement options.

9. Do you accept insurance?
Flourish Therapy operates as a private practice, but some Dutch and international insurance providers offer partial or full coverage. Coverage depends on your specific policy and provider.
We recommend checking directly with your insurer—or feel free to reach out to us, and we’ll help you determine your eligibility.

10. Can I stop therapy whenever I want?
Yes, therapy is a voluntary process, and you can pause or stop at any time. Your well-being and autonomy are essential.
If you're considering ending therapy, we encourage discussing it with us first so we can review your progress together and ensure you feel supported moving forward.

11. Can I bring a friend or family member to my sessions?
Therapy is typically an individual process, but in some cases, having a friend or family member present can be helpful. We can discuss this together and see if it aligns with your therapy goals.
