ABOUT JAN
Personalised, evidence-based therapy.
I offer personalized and evidence-based therapy to assist you in navigating psychological challenges and distress. My approach is integrative, drawing from my training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Schema Therapy, and mindfulness-based techniques such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I merge the structured, goal-oriented elements of CBT with the humanistic, person-centered aspects of Schema Therapy, ensuring you receive high-quality care.
I am a practicing psychologist with dual master's degrees in Clinical Psychology and Applied Cognitive Psychology, both of which I completed here in the Netherlands. While I've called Leiden home for nearly 7 years, my roots trace back to Germany. I have also lived in the USA and Brazil, affording me firsthand experience in the challenges and adjustments of creating a new life abroad.
Living far from family and friends can make life even more challenging and demanding. My specialization lies in helping individuals adapt to life in a foreign land and addressing the unique challenges that accompany it.
In addition to this, I am trained to treat mood disorders, such as depression, and anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) and specific phobias. I am here to provide support and guidance as you navigate the complexities of life and psychological well-being.

Coping with hardship is challenging on its own, and opening up to a stranger can add an extra layer of difficulty. As a therapist, my aim is to create a comfortable and welcoming environment for our sessions, filled with empathy and devoid of judgment. Within this space, you have the opportunity to feel heard, validated, and free to express yourself.
I view therapy as an ongoing interaction. I dedicate myself to listening to you attentively, connecting with your experiences, and concurrently offering methods and techniques that I hope will resonate with you. The collaborative nature of our therapeutic process means that you can integrate your own passions, ideals, and values into the therapy, thereby taking charge of your own growth journey.
